In early June I finished work on the research consulting I did for North Carolina State - this was basically a literature review, summary, and a little analysis for an agronomy professor there. Also in early June, I received comments back from anonymous reviewers on my paper for the special issue of the Anthropology of Work Review. I made a lot of revisions, while working with my UNC advisor, and the paper was just accepted for publication this past week. That process isn't over yet, I will have to do some more work to ensure that photos and figures are copyrighted and I will have to respond to the copy-editor's suggestions. The issue will come out in December. I've also been working to re-submit a paper to the journal of Agriculture and Human Values and should be able to send in my revisions soon.
This last Thursday was my last day at Root Cause. During my time there I finished a set of reports on ending chronic homelessness, began and terminated research on youth re-entry (programs to re-integrate youth offenders), and nearly completed a set of reports on domestic violence services. My work there was a great opportunity to conduct research and write for a different audience and with a fairly short turn-around time. Now, I'm continuing work on the second publication and doing some little projects before I start at UNC in August.
Amanda is still working four jobs while taking an online class - she's also been busy looking into what activities we can get involved in at Chapel Hill. We're going to try to join a crop mob - this is basically a group of people who want to help out on a small farm. The crop mob goes to a farm and just does whatever the farmer needs. She is also looking into Spanish classes, knitting groups, and has a lot of craft-work planned (diningroom table anybody?). Hopefully Dad can get her up to speed on wood working.
So we're looking forward to seeing a lot of you in a couple weeks at Dan's ordination. Until then we'll try to blog more than we have been.
This Dan you speak of sound wonderful. Tell me more.
