Where should we go?

James' comment got me wondering, where do you all think we should go if we volunteer for the Peace Corps?  You can suggest a region or a specific country, but we'll love to hear your thoughts.

This http://www.peacecorps.gov/index.cfm?shell=learn.wherepc is where the Peace Corps sends people.

So, Botswana? Mozambique? Ukraine? China?  What do you think?

  1. I think I would pick The Dominican, South Africa, or Jordan. I find it a little peculiar that Haiti doesn't have an open program anymore. Do you know why that is?

  2. We were wondering the same thing yesterday. Usually the Peace Corps withdraws from a country because the government of the country requested that they withdraw or because the country is thought to be too dangerous for volunteers. I think they probably aren't in Haiti because of violence (prior to the earthquake), but that's just a guess.

The Peace Corps is very protective of its volunteers and takes volunteers out well before other international organizations or USAID.

I like your suggestions, all would be cool places.

  4. I think we would dig that. One advantage of Ukraine is that it rhymes with a lot of words so we could write poems like:

    We went to Ukraine,
    but it was a pain,
    'cause there was rain,
and the only detergent was Gain.

Maybe that can be edited to sound better.

  6. Okay, revised question...

What country would you visit if we went to? I assume nobody's visiting if we go to Mongolia, but how's Fiji? Or Jamaica?

Would you visit if we go to Paraguay?
